Survey

In order to create my magazine i need to know who my target audience is. That way i can create a magazine that people will want to buy. Therefore i conducted a survey and asked students around the college.

My survey consisted of the following questions:
1.Are you male or female?
I asked this question so that from my results i would be able to determin what the male population of the college would like to read about and also what the female population of the college would want to read about.
2. Would you prefer a college magazine or a newspaper?
I decided that this is a good question to ask as generally a newspaper is much more formal and informative than a magazine, therefore i would be able to tell if the audience prefer formal or informal. From my results i can conclude that a informal approach to my magazine would be best.
3.How much would you be willing to pay?
I need to know the price ranges people will be willing to pay so that i can plan for materials and also what price would help sell the magazine. As price often appeals to people. From my results i found that 50p or less will be a good price range.
4.What do you like to do in your free time?
I thought that this was a good question because i can see from data like this what kind of people i am aiming my magazine at. From my results i found that males generally exercise or play on games consoles and females normally shop or relax. Also i found that both sex's often listen to music. Therefore i know what kind of information i should involve within my magazine.
5.How often would you like a college magazine/newspaper to be released?
This question helped me to understand how much i need to include in my magazine and how long i will have to complete it. From my results i found that releasing it monthly would be best, however some people did say every two weeks which could be an option.
6.What would you like to see included in the college magazine/newspaper?
Although i already asked people what they do in their freetime i thought this would also be a good question as i can understand what sort of things they already like to read about. From my results i found that sport, film and music reviews; and fashion were the main contenders.
7.Do you like competitions?
I thought this question would be very helpful as i could find out methods of drawing people into my magazine. From my results i found that most people do like competitions therefore i could use competitions as a marketing device.
8.What was the last product that you brought?
This question will help me decide which advertisements to put into my magazine. From my results i found that games, clothes and, music products are what most people want to buy.
9.Do you buy any other magazines or newspapers?
This question helped me determine my competition but also to see if there was many keen readers. From my results i saw that some people already read magazines and newspapers but most people do not. This could be a problem as i need to change their point of view and make them want to read my magazine.
10.Would you like information about the college to be included withing the magazine/newspaper?
This question helped me to understand what i would need to conclude within my magazine.

This is a pie chart i created from my results. It shows what genres of magazines were most favorable by students. I created this by looking at the results from question 6 (what would you like to see included in a college magazine/newspaper?).

I think that most of my questions were very effective and helpful however asking whether or not they would prefer a magazine or a newspaper did not need to be included because everyone answered magazine, however it was still interesting to know. If this were to a be a real survey i would have asked alot more people and therefore have got a better range of people and audiences views.

Overall i think i carried out my survey well and it supplied me with enough information to get a general feel about what my magazine will be like. Also if i were to form a real magazine i now know that conducting a survey would be extremely helpful.
