What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The kind of publishing company that i think my magazine would appeal too is IPC. Although this magazine publisher is very high up and controls a lot of the successful magazines out there, i believe my magazine could be one of them.

IPC media have more than 60 media brands and produces printed products as well as online platforms for tablets and mobiles. Being published by this brand would be a huge head start in the world of publishing and would increase my chance of success. Considering 500 new magazines are launched every year and only 3/10 of them last more than 4 years. For IPC to have 60 media brands is a huge success.

I believe my magazine would be perfect for IPC media because it is something new and exciting. It is the niche that IPC are missing. The USP (unique selling point) of my magazine is that it introduces new genres, new stereotypes and even new musical style trends in to the world of music. IPC only have 2 music magazines currently and both are aimed at men and involve rock music (NME and Uncut). These new stereotypes, genres and musical styles will occur because my magazine is unisex and covers a variety of music, and considering it is introducing new talent, new sounds, styles and idols naturally come with it. Therefore the genres my magazine will cover are endless and could even be unknown to us at present.

If IPC media do publish NEXT?! They would be gaining a magazine with huge potential as its target audience is so wide, therefore there is a lot of marketing choices and also a lot of people willing to buy it. NEXT?! Will control what's up and coming and not wonder far in to the past. This is something that appeals to young people/adults, and this age range (15-25) is what my magazine is targeting. This target audience is also new to IPC media which will appeal to them. It will bring in new customers and with advertisement inside my magazine available they have the potential to increase the sales of other magazines. Plus this age range will pull in a lot of extra advertisement, mainly because at this age people have a lot of spare money, as they have no major commitments. Therefore they can afford to spend it on leisure activities/products and events or superficial products. Other businesses know this and will therefore be interested in advertising. Not forgetting that this magazine is all about whats up and coming. Which almost puts you in control of informing people what they should be buying and spending their money on. With this in mind, you could easily persuade businesses to advertise in our magazine because the audience should trust and believe that what we advertise is the best and better then anything else out there, and will therefore want to buy these products.

IPC's distributor is Market Force. Market Force is a major company that not only distributes magazines but also delivers information to its clientele that informs them of peoples buying habits and disposable income in different areas. Using this information IPC will be able to sell my magazine to the places that are more likely to buy it. We will be able to tell where these areas are by the amount of money spent on music related products such as gigs and festivals but also if money is spent on leisure activities, restaurants, travel, and superficial products. However the target audience will not be spending massive amounts because they are students. This then gives us an extra hint as to where our target audiences are situated. Using this information we can selectively chose where to distribute the magazine for best potential of sales.

NEXT?! could also be considered as an online magazine. This would be a good idea because i am targeting young people. Young people are the majority that use electronic devices to the highest standard possible. Therefore they will be interested in using it as a magazine. Not only will it possibly have the chance to raise income it also helps to cut down production costs as it is all online. Seeing as technology seems to be the future it seems as though NEXT?! should be online. Mainly because the magazine as a whole is looking for the next big thing.

  1. What do you mean by introduces new stereotypes? Do you mean new musical style trends? If you want IPC to take on your magazine you need to consider the size of the target audience and its purchasing power (you begin to do this at the end). Will they be enough for a big national company to be interested in the revenue generated from circulation and from advertising. Include some more thoughts on this. Also IPC's distributor is MarketForce. Explain a bit about them too. And finally would you want a web-presences to back up your brand? (Synergy).
